The Best of New England: BEACHES

For many of us, summer is our favorite time of year. We have the beaches, the vacations, the BBQ’s, the picnics, the bike rides, the backyard parties and pools, the deck, the ice-tea...the ice-cream... and all those catchy summer songs.  Grab a cold one and put your feet up and sing along!

Here in New England, there are so many great beaches it can be hard to choose. We have highlighted some you will want to add to your list. They are worth the trip!

Siasconset Beach - Nantucket Island Massachusetts by Brendan Reals, 2019

Siasconset Beach, Nantucket Massachusetts

Nantucket has some of the most beautiful and pristine shorelines in the world. Siasconset Beach is a wide beach located on the eastern most tip of the island. It’s easy to access the beach and enjoy such a special part of this extraordinary island.

Ogunquit Beach, Ogunquit Maine

The southern coast of Maine is renowned for its white sandy beaches, and many say that Ogunquit is the most accessible and the most stunning beach in the area. We say, this is absolutely one to add to your summer beach list.

Plum Island Beach, Newburyport, Massachusetts.  Here at C. Devon’s Homes we all have a soft spot for Plum Island for one reason or another. This family friendly beach offers many fun and interesting things to do. Discover the amazing bird watching and the natural history. Plum Island is named for the beach plum shrubs that grow in the dunes. We can’t wait to spread our towels and set up our chairs here.

Sand Beach, Maine

Acadia National Park, Mount Desert Island, Maine. This is a gorgeous little beach (290 yards long) nestled between mountains and rocky shores on the east side of Mount Desert Island in Acadia National Park AND one of the most heavily visited areas of the park.

Check Out Some of Devon’s Favorite Beaches:

Good Harbor Beach is a photograph by David Doc Vincent, 2018

Good Harbor and Wingaersheek are two beaches that can’t be beat. Good Harbor is wide and long and stunning. They have a concession stand and a bathhouse and showers.

Wingersheek is exceptionally gorgeous with all its climbing rock formations. Wingaersheek has the low tide sandbar and tide pools. You will surely find seashells, hermit crabs and sand dollars. Kids LOVE IT! We feel like we can live forever when we look out from the shore on these two favorite spots. Both have parking, but Wingaersheek is a smaller beach so we suggest you get there EARLY if you want a spot.

Singing Beach in Manchester by the Sea is another gem. This (almost) half-mile beach is surely magical.  It’s very hard to find parking in the area and the locals are very protective of the beach parking lot. It’s for Residents ONLY! And they do enforce. It. Yet, only less then half a mile away is some street and shopping area parking. If you are lucky enough to find a spot, the walk to the beach is worth it once you see how gorgeous this beach actually is. It’s dreamy, like the French Riviera, and our writer, Renee says, “Hands down my favorite beach!”  And they call it singing beach because they say the sand sings as you walk across it. Come on down and See, and Hear for yourself. Go once, and you will absolutely want to go back again!

While you’re in town, be sure to check out one of Devon’s favorite hot spots: Bravo by the Sea for some of the best pizza in MA!

Ballston Beach, Truro. Photograph by Paul Rifkin

Also, for those visiting Cape Cod, Cape Cod Magazine has voted Ballston Beach in Truro, the best beach on Cape Cod. Truro is quintessential cape cod, and we have featured it in past posts. Ballston Beach is located on the ocean side of the Cape and is a picturesque spot to enjoy the day.

Duxbury Beach Park is one of Devon’s absolute favorites! The beach is clean and accessible with plenty of parking. We recommend going at low tide to have the BEST beach day!

A Non-New England Bonus Beach!

Cooper’s Beach on Long Island, NY is Devon’s pick for one of the best beach on the east coast, and it is rated as one of the top ten beaches in America! Enjoy the scenic backdrop of gorgeous nature and even more gorgeous houses while you soak up the white sand beach air. Complete with a bathhouse, concession stand, and chair/umbrella rentals.
