Ingredients:

Crust:

  • 2 refrigerated pie crust

  • 2-4 tablespoons of butter

  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon per crust (or to taste)

  • 2 tablespoons sugar per crust (or to taste)

Pie:

  • 7-8 cups of apples (8-10)

  • 2 tablespoons flour

  • ¼ cup sugar

  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (to keep apples from turning brown)

Crumb:

  • 1 stick softened unsalted butter

  • 1 cup flour

  • 1 cup brown sugar

  • 1 tablespoon coarse sugar

Directions:

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F

  1. Unroll crust on lightly floured surface

  2. Brush crust with melted butter and evenly sprinkle with cinnamon sugar

  3. Roll crust up tightly, using butter to seal. Slice into half inch rounds.

  4. Press rounds into clear glass 9 inch pie pan. Press until flat, covering entire pan (make sure there are no gaps!)

  5. Slice apples thinly, toss in large bowl with lemon juice, flour, sugar, and cinnamon, until evenly coated.

  6. Pour apples into crust. It should make a mound of apples.

  7. In a medium bowl, combine crumb ingredients: butter, flour, and brown sugar, and mix with your hands until a crumble forms.

  8. Sprinkle crumbs over apples to make an even layer.

  9. Sprinkle top of pie with coarse sugar.

  10.  Bake until golden brown (50-60 min) and the filling is bubbling. If edges start to brown first, cover edges with foil around the 20-25 min mark.

  11. Remove from oven and allow to cool for 15-20 minutes before serving.
