Founded in 1960 by Swiss-born ski instructor Hans Thorner, Magic Mountain quickly became renowned for offering some of southern Vermont's most challenging terrain. Thorner meticulously selected Glebe Mountain in Londonderry, Vermont, for its diverse valleys and picturesque landscape reminiscent of Swiss valleys. He transformed the area into a "Little Corner of Switzerland," complete with a miniature Swiss Village, including hotels like Dostal’s and the Blue Gentian. From the Abracadabra Lounge to on-mountain Swiss feasts, Magic Mountain boasted vibrant nightlife. Thorner's dedication to quality extended to the ski school, where he handpicked instructors from Switzerland, solidifying Magic's reputation as one of the country's premier ski destinations.
