Norman Rockwell (1894–1978) was an American painter and illustrator known for his heartwarming and nostalgic depictions of American life. He created over 4,000 works, including paintings, illustrations, and magazine covers, many of which appeared on the covers of “The Saturday Evening Post.” His works often portrayed scenes of everyday life, capturing the essence of American culture with humor, warmth, and a keen eye for detail.

With a mission to inspire and engage audiences through the power of Norman Rockwell’s art and storytelling, the museum stands as a testament to his lasting influence.

Among Rockwell’s most renowned works is “Freedom from Want,” a part of his iconic “Four Freedoms” series inspired by President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s speech. This painting portrays a warm and joyous family gathered around a Thanksgiving dinner table, symbolizing the abundance, togetherness, and gratitude associated with the holiday season. Rockwell’s paintings, including “Freedom from Want” and “The Problem We All Live With,” (a 1964 painting by Norman Rockwell that is considered an iconic image of the Civil Rights Movement in the United States) have left a lasting impact on the art world, resonating with viewers across generations. The History of High Lawn Dairy Farm - Lee, MA

Located just one town over from Lenox, the High Lawn Dairy Farm is a great stop to make on our grand tour of the Lenox area. This farm’s story begins in the 1920s with Marjorie Field, raised between New York City and the Berkshire summers at High Lawn, inherited her parents' dream of establishing an all-Jersey cattle farm, recognizing the breed's superiority in milk quality. Following her mother's passing in 1934, Marjorie and her husband Colonel George Wilde took charge of High Lawn, aspiring to expand its legacy. Amidst the Great Depression's challenges, Marjorie saw an opportunity not only to provide nutritious milk to her community but also to improve the Jersey line through selective breeding. With meticulous dedication, she transformed High Lawn into a global leader in Jersey breeding, earning accolades such as the Master Breeder Awards from the American Jersey Cattle Club and the Dairy Shrine’s Distinguished Dairy Cattle Breeder Award. Marjorie's commitment to her herd's well-being and her pioneering contributions to genetics underscored her life's purpose, establishing the enduring legacy of High Lawn Farm.
