Ice-Skating

What Do We Love Most About Ice-Skating?

Well, for  one, we love the color it brings to our cheeks, and we love the apres-skate with a hot toddy or hot coco to warm us (we especially recommend Beacon Hill Chocolates). There are so many reasons and here at These Days with Devon, we wanted to remind you to try skating again this winter. It’s a great workout and so much fun. Did you know that in and around Boston and beyond, there are some great public skating places?

Frog Pond - Boston

Located in the center of the Boston Common, the magic of the Frog Pond is apparent as you stroll up. Open from December to March, depending on how cold the winter is, you can take a spin  around the pond—or just watch skaters zoom by. Bring your own skates or rent some at the concession  stand. Lessons for all ages are available, and there are cute seal-shaped skating aids for children. Open  seven days a week, the weekends and holidays are the busiest. While you wait your turn, there’s a café  and free WiFi to keep you occupied.

Winter Skate at Patriot’s Place - Foxboro

The Patriot’s place of play offers so much more than just football! Winter Skate at Patriot Place at Gillette Stadium offers day and evening public skating, normally starting mid-November. The 60-by-140-foot rink is big enough to accommodate all levels, and the professional surface means conditions are always ideal. For non-skaters, you can hang out on an observation deck overlooking the rink.

Cronin Skating Rink - Revere

Located just north of the city in Revere, this is another public rink  overseen by the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR). Open year round for public skating, for only $7, the facility also has a party room and a snack bar, making it a perfect spot for a child’s birthday party.

Babson Skating Center - Wellesley

Part of the Babson College facilities in Wellesley, the Babson  Skating Center offers skating lessons, public skating, training sessions, hockey, private rentals and more in top notch facilities. Public skating is offered somewhat regularly, but the real win here is for $10 you can  skate (skate rental included) on a college athlete level rink! Check the rink’s website for details about public skating and lots of classes for all levels.
