Everything You Wanted to Know about Halloween BUT WERE AFRAID TO ASK

Halloween’s origins can be traced back to the ancient Celtic festival known as Samhain, which was held on November 1 in contemporary calendars. It was believed that on that day, the souls of the dead returned to their homes, so people dressed in costumes and lit bonfires to ward off spirits. These days Halloween has become so popular…

Creepin' It Cheap: Amazon vs Walmart

According to the National Retail Federation’s annual survey by Prosper Insights & Analytics, 69% of consumers plan to participate in Halloween, up from 65% in 2021 and close to the 68% in 2019. In all, Americans are expected to spend a whopping $10.6 billion on Halloween candy, costumes and decorations.

That’s about two hundred dollars the average American spends on Halloween. And if you want to save money this year look at what we found in our research: Back in 2019 there was study by LENDedu that found that: Overall, Amazon is 15.45% cheaper than Walmart for Halloween products To conduct this research, they took 20 identical Halloween items found on Amazon and Walmart and compared the prices. Specifically, they compared 10 candy items, 5 costume items, and 5 decoration items.

So it may be that Amazon Prime is worth it after all.

No matter the price, Halloween has become a HUGE SMASHING HOLIDAY! Who knew that monsters, ghosts and goblins would be so popular? These days, Halloween is all the rage!

For the kids, anticipating Halloween begins in September when costume ideas start taking shape. Once it starts, the fun doesn’t end until the candy coma and the belly ache begin. Have you ever seen a kid eat just one or even just two pieces from their hefty trick or treat bag? Neither have we! And we admit, we don’t either! Some of us still sneak some of those yummy Twizzlers and bags of pretzels from the kids’ stash. Come on, we know you do too!

While young adults may bypass the trick-or-treating, Halloween still offers a great excuse to dress up, look silly or sexy, have a night out on the town, or throw your own monster bash. It’s all fun and fantasy. Given the turbulent world we are living in, we need as many excuses to let go and enjoy ourselves as we can. Chock one up for October 31st. Here at These Days with Devon, we like coming up with creative ways to continue enjoying this haunted holiday.....

It’s simple! Just gather the family, dim the lights, and open a book. But not just any book, may we suggest dusting the cobwebs off one of the following and just read aloud:

  • The Canterville Ghost.

  • The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.

  • White Dog.

  • A Day at Versailles.

  • Sweet Mary.

  • A Ghost Story.

  • Haunted Cemeteries.

  • The Open Window.
