THE FOURTH OF JULY!

Bring Out the Red, White, and Blue!

Independence Day is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the Declaration of Independence, which was ratified by the Second Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, establishing the United States of America.

There are so many ways to celebrate the Fourth of July...Fireworks, family reunions, concerts, barbecues, picnics, parades, baseball games, and parties galore!

But America’s best Independence Day celebration is the Boston Pops free July 4th concert and fireworks spectacular. This amazing event attracts more than 1 million spectators who gather on the banks of the Charles River to listen to the rousing music and display their unwavering patriotism. The concert also features quintessential favorites such as "The Star-Spangled Banner" and "Stars and Stripes Forever."  This event is televised with modern music as well, but the traditional classics remain a highlight.

Why does Boston have such a large Independence Day celebration? This is where the fight for American liberty began, and July 4th is a very special occasion here. We take the celebration to the max complete with the signature finale Tchaikovsky’s explosive 1812 overture and ending with dramatic drum rolls and real cannon fires while church bells ring throughout the city. Then just as smoke from the cannons begins to fade from the air, a dazzling firework show lights up the sky. Having been there, we can say, it’s incredible.

For those of you who have never experienced this extraordinary event in person, it’s highly recommended. There’s nothing quite like it. We can assure you, it’s truly what you would call Awesome!! Be brave, head out and face the crowds for this annual and spectacular tradition.

The concert kicks off at 8pm and the Fireworks go off at ten-thirty.

This year, a special inclusion will be the Ukrainian National Anthem, which will be dedicated to the people on Ukraine in honor of their courage and their fight to keep their country free and independent.  The Pops will also play number of iconic pieces by Stephen Sondheim, in tribute to the composer who passed away last year.

The music begins at 8pm Tuesday, July 4th on the Esplanade in Boston.

Fourth of July Historical Facts:

Did you know? John Adams believed that July 2nd was the correct date on which to celebrate the birth of American independence, and would reportedly turn down invitations to appear at July 4th events in protest. Adams and Thomas Jefferson both died on July 4, 1826—the 50th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence.

Did you know that the USS Constitution makes her annual turn-around cruise in Boston Harbor each Fourth of July to celebrate our nations independence.
