Black History Month is an annual observance originating in the United States, where it is also known as African-American History Month. It has received official recognition from governments in the United States and Canada, and more recently has been observed in Ireland and the United Kingdom.
To truly celebrate Black History Month (and there are many ways to do this) we can support black-owned businesses. There are more than two million in the United States. WE can educate ourselves on the subject. WE can watch documentaries like Summer of Soul, One Night in Miami, and countless others. We can visit the Martin Luther Embrace Sculpture on Boston Common. Read Books by Black Authors. For one, may we suggest Renee’s dear friend, and fellow writer, Bettye Kearse’s book, The Other Madisons.
Thank you for celebrating this important and significant month with us.
