Speakeasies
Here are some cool speakeasies & hidden cocktail-bars in and around Boston / MetroWest that people are talking about — types, vibes, and what to watch out for.
🍸 Great Speakeasies & Hidden Cocktail Spots Around Boston
Next Door (East Boston)
A hidden lounge/bar with a speakeasy feel — tucked behind/inside Pazza on Porter. Creative cocktails, upscale vibe, reservations recommended. Reddit+1
Offsuit (Chinatown, Boston)
Very secretive entrance (unmarked, down an alley). Inventive drinks, strong atmosphere. If you like adventurous cocktails and enjoy the hunt, this is one to try.
Hecate (Back Bay/Boston)
An underground speakeasy with a very polished, themed cocktail list. Gets busy quickly, so go early. Devon’s friend owns this one.
1928 Beacon Hill
Has a speakeasy-theme, cozy and atmospheric. Multiple small rooms with distinct vibes. Good for something a little more upscale. Their Porn Star Martini with Whipped Champagne foam is our very favorite cocktail!
Farmacia (North End, Boston)
Tiny (only 9 seats), highly curated cocktail experience. Because it’s small, reservations are competitive. It’s more of a cocktail tasting feel than a grab-a-drink-quick spot.
Blind Duck (Raffles Boston)
Hidden up in the Raffles hotel on the 17th/18th floors. Elegant bar, good drinks, great views. Nice spot for something fancy. We hear the drinks are super fab.
The Gallery at Yvonne’s
Hidden behind a bookshelf in Yvonne’s (Downtown Crossing). Private, dim, stylish. Good for something a bit special.
Wink & Nod (South End, Boston)
Modern speakeasy flare, rotating chef/resident programming. More relaxed, still polished.
Less Than Greater Than (Hudson, MA, MetroWest)
A speakeasy concealed inside an ice cream / dessert shop. Hidden entrance via sister creamery. Intimate, creative cocktails. We LOVE their Night in Waikiki cocktail.
THE WIG SHOP: BOSTON
A speakeasy inspired lounge serving a changing menu of custom cocktails plus light bites. Located at 27 Temple Pl., Boston, MA. They are really striving to elevate the cocktail experience in the Boston area in a relaxed and comfortable lounge. The location alone suggests a cozy speakeasy. It’s a little side alley in Downtown Boston.😉🍾
What to Know / Tips
Reservations are important for many of these. Small capacity, popular, some have ticket-type releases.
Dress code & hours vary. Not all speakeasies are casual; some have more upscale or themed expectations.
Entrance clues are often subtle. Hidden doors, no large signage, unmarked entrances. Sometimes there’s a “password” or you have to go through a back door.
Cover price / cost per drink can run high for the craft cocktail bars. Expect to spend more than at a neighborhood bar.
Go early or midweek if you want less wait time. Weekend nights fill up fast, especially for places that are very hidden.
