MOTHER’S DAY – SHOW YOUR MOM SOME LOVE!

And here at these days with Devon since we love our mothers beyond measure, we have some great suggestions for some fun ways to celebrate your mom while creating lasting memories and warming her heart.

There are so many ways to celebrate:

What about a backyard game day-lawn party! Croquet, cornhole, bocce, outdoor Jenga or horseshoes. Select your family's favorite game, or let mom decide. While soaking up the rays, break out the bubbly for croquet, the vino for bocce, or the ice-cold beer for horseshoes. Mom will have so much fun she may even want to make it an annual event. Think about awarding a trophy to the winner each year, maybe a jar of homemade cookies, movie passes, or amazon gift cards.

We also love the idea of taking mom to high tea for her big day. Tea for two or twenty-two. In the Boston area, the Four Seasons and the Boston Harbor Hotel offer such a treat. They carefully prepare, Vanilla bean scones, fresh lobster rolls, white chocolate and praline moose, vanilla biscuits and even orange ginger cake. What mother wouldn’t appreciate such delectable homemade pastries in such a perfect setting? And speaking of location.... There is also tea at the courtyard at the Boston Public library. This is perhaps high tea at its finest. Tucked away in the McKim Building overlooking the Italianette Courtyard, it’s known as a hidden gem. They have over fifteen hand selected and locally sourced teas! On the North Shore, may we suggest the Jolie Tea House in historic Salem? This charming and cozy place offers many unique teas from around the world plus homemade scones and French macaroons. Most moms appreciate tea the loveliness and care that goes into a tea service. And who doesn’t enjoy trays of desserts? A date with mom for high tea is a pretty sure way to impress her and make her feel like a queen. Reserve early.

And if you are feeling particularly eager and enthusiastic bring the tea party to mom by creating your own DIY event. Buy or borrow some pretty porcelain tea cups, bake the scones, and prepare some finger sandwiches. And, may we suggest only the finest teas for mom.... Like Eden Rose (black tea with rose, vanilla, and lavender) its Paris in a cup, from Betjeman & Barton. Or, try our other favorite - Rose Violette Tea from the world-famous Fortnum & Mason in London. Or closer to home order your tea from Bellocq. We think they have one of the prettiest websites and some of the most exquisite teas.

Here at These Days with Devon, we know how to make Mom’s spoon swoon....
