It’s February, and that means one very important thing… candy. Lots of it.

Here are some of our favorite places to find candy, sweet treats, and irresistible goodies any time of year, whether you’re sharing the love or keeping it all for yourself.

L.A. Burdick Chocolates, Harvard Square

Known for exceptionally fine chocolates crafted with care, L.A. Burdick’s offerings are elegant and delicious. Around Valentine’s Day you’ll find lovely boxes of hand-crafted chocolates, chocolate hearts, and special seasonal assortments that are perfect for gifting. Their rich truffles and chocolate squares are consistently excellent. This is one of our favorites too.

We suggest the chocolate mice. the chocolate mice are a whimsical and delightful treat that brings a smile before you even taste them. Each mouse is crafted from rich, smooth chocolate, with tiny details that make them almost too cute to eat. These charming confections are perfect for gifting, as part of a dessert display, or simply as a playful indulgence for yourself. The chocolate is luxuriously creamy, and the little touches, whether a dusting of cocoa or a tiny candy accent—show the care and craftsmanship that go into every creation. They capture both the artistry of the chocolatier and the fun, imaginative side of sweet treats.

Their hot chocolate is in Devon’s words, “Amazing!” And, in our writer Renee’s words, “It’s so good, my husband took me there on our first date.”

Formaggio Kitchen, Cambridge & Boston

Formaggio Kitchen isn’t a traditional candy shop, but around Valentine’s the store usually features a curated selection of gourmet chocolates, truffles, and fine sweets from boutique chocolate makers from around the world. Pair their selections with beautiful artisanal cheeses or other treats for a thoughtful Valentine’s gift package. One of Devon’s favorites all year long!

Here are some sublime pairings to make your February simply irresistible.

Dark Chocolate with Blue Cheese

The bold, slightly salty tang of blue cheese contrasts beautifully with the deep, bittersweet flavor of high-quality dark chocolate. Look for artisan chocolates that balance the bitterness with a touch of sweetness or include a ganache center infused with blue cheese for a creamy, decadent bite.

White Chocolate with Goat Cheese

Soft, tangy goat cheese pairs wonderfully with the sweetness of white chocolate. Many chocolatiers create truffles or bars that incorporate a creamy goat cheese center with white chocolate shells, giving a unique and memorable flavor experience.

Milk Chocolate with Aged Cheddar

A smooth milk chocolate and sharp cheddar combination is surprisingly sophisticated. The saltiness and depth of the aged cheddar bring out the caramel and cocoa notes in the chocolate. This pairing works well in small bite-sized squares or chocolate bars with embedded cheese crystals.

Chocolate-Covered Cheese Bites

Some specialty shops make small rounds of firm cheeses (like manchego or gouda) dipped in dark, milk, or even ruby chocolate. These are fun, portable, and perfect for a tasting platter at home or a party.

Chocolate Truffles with Cream Cheese or Mascarpone

Soft, creamy cheeses like mascarpone or cream cheese make dreamy truffle fillings. Often flavored with citrus zest, coffee, or liqueur, these truffles are rich and silky and a real treat for anyone who loves both chocolate and fromage. Cant you see, we’ve taken chocolate to a whole new level just for you!

Ye Olde Pepper Candy Companie, Salem, Mass.

Founded in the early 1800s, Ye Olde Pepper Candy Companie is one of New England’s most beloved historic candy shops. The moment you step inside, you are surrounded by the scents and sights of traditional sweets that have been enjoyed for generations. Glass jars are filled with old fashioned candies, and the shop feels warm, nostalgic, and deeply rooted in New England history. A must try treat here is their classic handcrafted peppermint, which reflects the company’s origins and timeless appeal. We are going back to Ye Olde Pepper this year.

Taza Chocolate, Somerville

Taza Chocolate offers a bold and distinctive chocolate experience that feels both modern and deeply artisanal. Their stone ground chocolate has a rustic texture and intense flavor that sets it apart from smoother commercial chocolates. The shop celebrates ethical sourcing and craftsmanship, making each bar feel special and intentional. A great place to start is their Mexican style chocolate discs, especially the cinnamon variety, which highlight Taza’s signature style. Devon tells us we must take the tour! And they are held Wed-Sunday, a tour and tasting. The admission is 13.00 dollars. And on Saturday and Sunday at ten-thirty, they have a scavenger hunt for children.

Kilwins, New England Locations

Kilwins is a classic candy store experience that instantly feels joyful and indulgent. With the smell of freshly made fudge and caramel filling the air, it is impossible to walk past without stepping inside. Their stores are warm and inviting, offering everything from chocolates to candy apples and homemade ice cream. A standout treat is their creamy fudge, made fresh in the store, which is rich, smooth, and wonderfully nostalgic.  And, they are even in many of Devon’s favorite towns from Portsmouth New Hampshire to Naples Florida.  Since we all know by now that Devon has great taste, we know Kilwins is a must try!

It’s one of those places where the shelves are lined with colorful jars and bins filled with old-fashioned sweets, nostalgic favorites, and timeless treats that make you feel like a kid again. Visiting Hillards brings back warm memories of shared laughter and sticky fingers, and it’s the perfect stop if you want to reminisce about the candies you loved growing up or introduce new generations to the joys of vintage sweets.
