CRAZY FOR CRANBERRIES

Devon loves Cape Cod and this time a year it’s worth the trip to check out the cranberries, ripe, and waiting just for you! Cranberry farming started on Cape Cod in the mid-1800s in Massachusetts continues to grow an excellent crop of native berries. Here in Massachusetts the acidic soil in the coastal wetland environments are favorable for their growth.

They even have cranberry bog bus tours. Be sure to check out:

What’s it like? Cranberry harvest is something to see! Tours are 60 in my 90 minutes. They take the group on a rented school bus and bring them up close to the wet harvest. Tour time is 10 AM every weekend day from the end of September to the first weekend in November. Come see these amazing crimson floating berries! They have a mini store with cranberry products and fresh local berries for sale. We will see you there. Just another reason to love These Days with Devon and our great State of Massachusetts!!!

THERE IS ALSO CRANBERRY BOG TOURS:

Welcome to Our Cranberry Farm

Leo & Andrea Cakounes operate the largest organic cranberry bog on Cape Cod.  Located in Harwich, MA, daily tours of the bog are offered seasonally.  Learn about the 12 month operation of a cranberry bog.  See the equipment and visit with the farm animals. For more info

If you are looking for something truly different to do, we highly suggest this berry cool experience. The best time to take a Cape Cod cranberry is during the harvest season which is from mid-September to mid-December. The brilliant red berries floating on the bog surface make for some amazing fall color backdrops.

The name Cranberry is derived from the phrase “crane berry” which references how the cranberry flower resembles the head on the sandhill crane - the birds once frequented cranberry bogs.

Dev, thank you for giving us another reason to love the Cape and to go back after summer!
